Combined, the upgrades of the Polestar Engineered Optimisation deliver faster engine response and acceleration, making your car more powerful and dynamic.
When overtaking or otherwise accelerating, having ample power to call upon makes all the difference – all the way through the rpms, especially in the mid-range.
Engine performance
A Polestar Engineered Optimisation increases horsepower with focus on the active driving, mid-range rpm interval, which is around 2 500–5 000 rpm in petrol models and 2 000–4 000 rpm in diesel. This delivers stronger acceleration and a more powerful overall feel.
An optimised car is more prepared for what you want to do. It reacts to every nuance of your driving whenever traffic or driving circumstances change.
Throttle response
The delay between gas pedal input and engine response has been reduced. The engine responds more directly making the car more agile. This provides confident power and direct acceleration on demand.
While driving actively on a winding road, engine rpms are maintained even when braking. By doing so, the car is prepared for maximum acceleration out of the corner and able to harness the full potential of the Polestar Engineered Optimisation.
Off-throttle response
Better off-throttle response means maintaining the engine rpm by not upshifting when braking or releasing the gas pedal momentarily. In turn, the higher rpm this creates reduces turbo lag and ensures the car is ready to accelerate. This provides faster response and more predictability.
Even milliseconds count when you are driving actively. The faster the car shifts gear, the more constant power you get.
Gear shift speed
Every time a car shifts gear, it disconnects the power from the wheels for a short time. The shorter this period, the more power it receives, delivering faster reactions and acceleration when you need it.
Staying in gear in a curve affects performance as it maintains tyre grip and increases control. This allows you to accelerate faster out of the corner.
Gear shift precision and hold
Any gear shifting during cornering can unsettle your car. The optimisation counters this by holding the optimal gear and maintaining higher rpm through the corner, ensuring the powertrain is ready to accelerate.
When driving actively you want the car to be as balanced as possible, with rear wheel power providing the grip that allows you to accelerate, for example out of corners.
AWD torque distribution
Normally, AWDs applies more power to the front wheels. With the Polestar Engineered Optimisation, more torque is redistributed to the rear wheels when you need improved traction at take-off and when cornering.
The exclusive Polestar Engineered rear badge subtly lets the world know your car has been optimised.
Latest generation Volvos also have Polestar Engineered mode added to their drive mode selection menu.
An optimisation leaves your original warranty and service intervals unaffected.
An optimisation does not alter fuel consumption or emission levels.
Our optimisations take about an hour to install – and are always carried out by authorised Volvo Cars dealers.
Two factors define which upgrades a Polestar Engineered Optimisation adds to your Volvo. These are its power train and generation:
Polestar Engineered is an exclusive collaboration between Volvo and Polestar. Polestar’s engineers and race experienced test drivers develop and optimise Volvo cars. The collaboration ranges from limited edition models to software optimisations for almost all Volvo cars.
Polestar Engineered Optimisations are software-based upgrades to Volvo cars. Six important performance areas of the powertrain are improved to enhance the driving experience.
Polestar Engineered Optimisations take your Volvo car to the next level of performance. Increased mid-range power is combined with quicker reactions, optimised control and timings in the drivetrain.
The price of a Polestar Engineered Optimisation varies across different markets. Contact your local dealer for more information.
Most Volvo cars can be upgraded with a Polestar Engineered Optimisation. Through the model selector, it is easy to verify if your Volvo can be optimised.
Most Volvo dealerships can install a Polestar Engineered Optimisation in your car. It only takes about an hour and can easily be combined with your next service. To ensure that a Polestar Engineered Optimisation is available for your car, please contact your dealership beforehand.
